During the night of the 6th April 1994, Juvenal Habyarimana, the President of Rwanda was killed. For the next three mounths the country lived in the horror of the 20th century worst genocide. Ten year latter, more than 120 000 people are still in the prisons and cachots waiting for justice. Prisons in Rwanda do not fit to the standarts of hygiene and human rights. Because of the lack in justice –most of the judges, lawyers were killed or left the country- it would take more than a hundred years to judge every prisoner. In the beginning of the 21th century this fact is one of the major problems for the Great Lakes region. International autorities have allowed Rwanda to use « gacaca », traditional justice. Justice is done in the middle of the village where the crime is supposed being done. No official judge, no legal procedure, no human rights. But no other solution !
